Mary (McClatchie) Summerhill, 86, passed peacefully on October 6th, 2023, surrounded by her children at Resurrection Hospital following a brief illness. Mary was born November 28th, 1936 in Chicago. Daughter of the late Gilva and Elizabeth (O'Connor) McClatchie. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Summerhill and loving mother to Kathleen, Brian (Purita), and Nora (Jim). Proud grandmother to Brendan, Madeline, Claire, Charlie and Declan. After losing both her parents at a young age, Mary was raised by her aunt, Marguerite O'Connor. Mary graduated from Loyola University, Chicago, in 1958, with a degree in Philosophy. She went on to pursue her passion for the arts and studied piano at The Chicago Conservatory of Music. It was there that Mary met the love of her life, Joe. Married in 1965, they were inseparable for 51 years until his death in 2016. Mary will always be remembered for her quick wit. She was a voracious reader with a deep appreciation of music, art, gardening, and her unwavering love of Chicago. Mary positively impacted all who knew her, with her kindness, sweet smile, and humility. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at Olson-Burke/Sullivan Funeral & Cremation Center, located at 6471 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago (one block north of Devon Ave.) on Saturday, October 21st, from 10am until 6 pm.  Memorial Prayer Service to begin at 3pm.
