I first worked with Bernie when we were both on staff at WJJD-AM in the l960s. A year or two later, we were again co-workers at WLS-AM. Years ago, my wife (Edie) and I socialized with Bernie and his wife and enjoyed watching all our kids playing together. In addition to his on-mic talent, Bernie was a complete and total gentleman, a very rare quality in a business as competitive as ours.

We shall miss his resonant, musical timbre and kind heart. He was always the voice of tolerance and thoughtfulness, yet, with an impish sparkle in the eye ....at Sag-Aftra meetings, singing at Biasetti's with Stan, Ernie, Martha, me and other stalwarts of the Great American Songbook. Loved his ebullient crooning of John's wonderful arrangements in a Sinatra-esque "je e sais quoi" at our Singers' Salons. Rest in Peace.
